2024 Exhibition
2024 Exhibition
Our theme in 2024 is Back to our roots.
This exhibition is Sustainable Couture’s final bow. Launched in 2009 by a flourishing group of creative, eco savvy designers and textile artists committed to creating innovative and stylish designs from recycled materials, the annual show has attracted large crowds each year.
This year, local designers Franca Frederiksen, Kate Merry, Kristina Kidd, Jen Standish-White and Marg Johnson were joined by Carmel Ryan and Janie Andrews (Darwin, NT), Philomena Hali and Natalia Rodrigo (Perth, WA), Nicky Schonkala (Victoria), Liz Wauchope and Naina Devi (Adelaide, SA)
We ran a tape measure over Sustainable Couture over the years ... 44 designers and many key volunteers including about 550 models, 6 MCs, 4 photographers, 4 music coordinators, 4 ticket sellers, along with generous in-kind & cash sponsorship, resulted in the production of 13 local shows, 2 interstate and 1 online (COVID).
Opened on Thursday 20 June 2024 by co-founders Franca Frederiksen and Philomena Hali, this exhibition, Back To Our Roots, brings us back to the location of our first event held at Central Craft.
Thanks for the good times. And remember the words of our co-founders Franca Frederiksen and Philomena Hali -
“ Buy less. Wear preloved. Wear it longer. Swap and share clothing. And…repair and restore what we already have.”
